Developing an Inclusive Classroom Culture Through Differentiated Teaching Strategies
On March 15, 2018, Cameroon TEA alumnus Ndifor Richard led a workshop on Developing an Inclusive Classroom Culture through Differentiated Teaching Strategies. The goal of the project was to increase the academic and social competencies of children at risk of educational failure in 20 schools within Buea.
The workshop brought together 150 secondary school teachers who gained training on how to design and deliver lessons using differentiation as a strategy to create multiple learning pathways for students to access learning in the classroom.
It also developed the teachers’ capacity to identify barriers to learning as well as raised awareness among the teachers on the impact of using differentiated teaching method to increase academic and social competencies of students with disabilities.
The teachers who were trained reached out to some 8500 secondary and high school students in and around Buea. Among the facilitators were Dr. Anya Evmenova, Professor of Special Education, George Mason University, Virginia, USA who led through Skype, the session on Using Differentiated Teaching Strategies and Susan Linda Stasi of the Rose Academies in Santa Clara California USA.
The project was made possible by the Global Teachers Grant from the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) of the U.S. Department of State, through a program implemented by IREX.
