STEM Education through Digitization - West Africa Alumni Conference | Delphine Tabot

Thank you, the U.S. Department of State, Fulbright Teacher Exchanges and IREX that the West African Alumni Conference became a reality from April 26-28, 2023. Coming together in the great West African country, Ghana, was for us to share ideas and innovation in Education. This conference brought together U.S sponsored Alumni from Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Cote D’Ivoire, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal and the host country Ghana

The privilege was mine on Thursday the 27th of April, 2023, as one of the Speakers to lead the training session on Educational Technology. Olalekan Ademoje from Nigeria facilitated the session on Conducting assessments using Artificial Intelligence while I facilitated the session on Teaching STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Maths) through Digitalization. Alumni were able to discover the existence of this powerful free resource, called PhET Simulations, an OER, which they could use in their lessons and make their learners become well engaged in the science they teach while facilitating and checking for learners understanding. In this way, it makes the science that we teach leave from Abstract to Real. Africa isn’t going to be left behind, and so not only did all the STEM participants discover one powerful tool existing, other language teachers as well who attended the session decided to be ambassadors in their countries by sharing the good news and great resource to their STEM colleagues back home. When teachers believe they can make a difference, they do! Let’s go out to our communities and make that difference confidently for posterity.

Remember Benjamin Franklin “Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn”. Let’s get on board now to involve the learners.

Great events are born! Great events are earned in a community where there is networking and collaboration.
